In July of 1959, the Viet Cong killed two American soldiers and wounded a third in an ambush at a South Vietnamese army camp in the small town of Bien Hoa about 20 miles northeast of Saigon.

The Viet Cong had been regularly assassinating South Vietnamese officials, but except for a single 1957 incident they had refrained from attacking Americans. The Bien Hoa assault signaled that they were refraining no longer.

Killed that day were Maj. Dale Richard Buis and Master Sgt. Chester M. Ovnand. Both of the slain Americans were career military men. Born in Pender, Nebraska, in 1921, Maj. Buis had served in World War II and Korea. He’d been at Bien Hoa only two days, and the night he was killed, he was showing his new comrades pictures of his three young sons, who were back home with his wife in Imperial Beach, California. Master Sgt. Ovnand, 45, had just written a letter to his wife back in Copperas Cove, Texas. He was the first Texan casualty of the war.

This weekend, you can view their names along with 58,307 other fallen service members as part of the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall exhibit at the Camp Mabry Open House and Air Show event. The event runs April 21st and 22nd from 8AM to 5PM and is free and open to the public.

Amfac. I used to be a ironworker, just out of high school, in the late 70's. I helped build the east hotel, and parking garage.

I remember that there was going to be a fundraising event to be held at the AA west hangars to watch the implosion of the Hyatt Regency West. This was the kick-off to the Terminal D project. Unfortunately, 9-11 happened, and an implosion "party" seemed very inappropriate.

A rare sighting from Founders' Plaza. ✈️👀

16-year-old avgeek Sam brought his custom-built, 13-pound LEGO American Airlines 737 to Founders' Plaza, where he watches planes come and go and can identify every single one.

Sam built his replica by looking at schematic drawings of an actual 737. It's complete with moving flaps, landing gear, rudder, engine components, doors, and emergency exits.

I'm coming to DFW from MSP to sightsee on July 28. Gonna take a lap all the way around on the tram, have lunch, plane watch, and then fly back.

Just as an enthusiasts...I am trying very hard to understand how do semi-circular terminals still work for "DFW" when they are slowly but surely being demolished little by little around the country. Granted Terminal "D" is squared off for international flights. I am sure that sometime in the future that changing the footprint of the terminals will change to that of Termianl "D" yet of course my thoughts are simply just that my own personal view. Yet with 7 runways and I would guess just as many taxiways trying to do any construction is a feat accomplished. Never the less making terminals wider and more efficient for both landside & airside is not an easy thing either. However in this country it is not easy to compete with the airports from other places on this globe to what they offer the passenger to help relieve the stress of flying and give such easy connections to their final destination where ever that may be. Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion.

I so wished we could have a direct flight from Dallas to Kosovo nonstop that would be perfect

My dad was just at your airport a little while ago. He was in Concourse C, now on his way to our hometown of Charlotte.

Still waiting for Terminal F to happen

It's easy to spot Qantas by the aircraft's prominent red tail.

I'm going to need use guys to complete the master plan airport layout already.

Pennsylvania and Aruba. Flew to Hawaii, Tahiti and Bora Bora in January. That's a hard act to follow!

Arrive terminal A tomorrow and fly out of D tomorrow.

Napa next weekend! Beyond that? A question mark. Time to start dreaming!
